Day 27, Sunday, March 12, 2017
Woke up around 7:00 ish to the call of nature. Didn’t set the alarm and I was disappointed I couldn’t sleep any longer. Threw the bed sheets together somewhat and dumped the suitcase. What a mess! Throwing things away and organizing, fitting the smallest items into the smallest areas I made my clothes and purchased items fit nicely together. It is a medium suitcase, not the larger one. This was a challenge for me, I usually travel with the 29″ case.
Packed my painting and precious other gifts into the carryon. My hair regrowth was showing and last night I mixed together the henna powder to let it do its thing. I’m not ready to let it go grey.
I proceeded to cover the roots with the paste and didn’t do too bad! I had put coconut oil on my forehead, cheeks and ears so the henna wouldn’t stain my skin too badly. At home I use a plain old henna powder I buy from Toronto at an Indian store, but I couldn’t find plain henna here. It was going to be a little reddish. After some time I rinsed and washed it all out. Yes, more red than I’m used to and yes it stained the skin a little.
At 11:30 we gathered to leave the Homestay with the Mithu and his assistant to go to the local market to buy food for the recipes we were to make.
Those dishes were: Shahi Paneer, Masala Chicken, Potato, Lentil and Pea Samosa, three different types. Also, spinach and onion Pakoras, mushroom Pakora, baked cauliflower, Jeera rice, naan bread and chapatis. For desert Mithu made sooji halwa, a dish made with butter, oil, with semolina (looked like cream of wheat) and sugar. Mmmm good! We all had a part even a small part in making these dishes. The ingredients and steps were written and photographed. I can’t wait to have a dinner party back home and cook some of these dishes!
By the time we finished eating it was 3:00 p.m. and time to have a nap. Our transfer was coming at 10:00 to take us to Delhi airport for our 2:00 a.m. flight to Zurich and our next World Centre, Our Chalet.
PS, we met a young family who were staying here a couple of days who live in St. Mary’s Ontario, about an hour from my home! She is a Girl Guide Leader, her daughter a Brownie and heard about this Homestay and thinks she knows about Nancy Walsh. Your reputation precedes you Nancy!
She owns Going Places Together which developed from her love of showing her older Girl Guides the world!
Also, who did we also meet was one of our staff from Sangam! She and her family were travelling the Golden Triangle together. What a nice surprise and a joy to see her again!
